My day has been absurd.
I think that I average between 60-80 emails a day and these are not random spam or entertainment emails (those would push it up well over 100) but emails asking my for my assistance or informing me of a change in something.
At the moment I am juggling 4 different edits and let me tell you the multi tasking is going to be the death of me.
They all are demanding my attention. I don't know who to prioritise. I get to my desk in the mornings and there are already about 10 emails from all 4 edits urgently needing something. The first 2 hours of my day were spent sorting that out whilst a 100 other things piled up to be done. I get on top of one thing and it is just another thing that they need.
Hot Edit Producer and I had a minor falling out today. Well in my head.
He is one of those people who needs their hand held for everything and I was not having the day to do so.
I mean seriously.
He emails me to find out if certain rushes are in his Avid.
In order to find out I have to
1) Call the post production co-ordinator
2) Who then calls the Machine Room
3) Who then have to speak to the person who did the transfer
4) Who then has to call up the post production co-ordinator to tell her if they have been done
5) Who then has to call me
6) Who then has to call Hot Editor Producer
We could avoid all of this if HE JUST LOOKED IN HIS AVID RUSHES BIN IN THE FIRST PLACE!
But for some reason he is not capable of doing so and needs 4 million other people to assist him with this.
Seriously.
He is NOT my favourite person at the moment considering that this has happen about 5 times today.

So busy I might explode

My idea of hell
Just because you're busy does not necessarily mean that it is all going to be fun. At the moment I am ready to shoot myself. I am in rushes hell.
RUSHES - The raw footage that comes back from the filming day in the form of numerous different tapes depending on what cameras were used at the time
They then need to be sorted through, labelled up, put into the tape log, double checked that everything is there and then sent to Post Production.
This would be fine if there was only a couple of them but we are shooting with a massive crew and there are loads! Seriously! Far too many!
Plus we are using this new system called Cinegy where the rushes are immediately logged into the wonderful system where we can view them in DVD quality and there is no pesky need for logging off of a VHS so I am trying to get my mind around using this wonderful tool too.
It's exhausting.
Did I mention how much I hate rushes?
It's ironic that I hate them so much considering that the rushes are what make the show as they are the footage. But I seriously could do without them.
Although that means I could do without TV.
Oh I'm confusing myself now!
P.s I'm going climbing with Jailbait again this weekend but this time we are camping! I don't camp! I hate camping! There is no toilet! Oh my god! Can I survive this?!

Boredom is a killer
I'm irritated today. What is the point of coming into work when you actually aren't doing anything?
Today I have read some blogs, surfed the internet, visited colleagues on other floors and generally farting about.
They haven't assigned me to a show, I have no boss and most important of all I have no work to do what so ever.
Whilst this might sound like paradise let me tell you it isn't. There really is only so much internet surfing you can do and 9 hours of nothing is mind numbingly boring.
Oh what I wouldn't give to be at home watching Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Or out shopping. Or in a swimming pool being eaten by savage sharks. (yes it is THAT boring)
I even tried to be late this morning. I left the house at 0930am - 35 minutes later than I usually do - and still got to work only 5 minutes late. Yes I know, how strange. I have no idea how I did that. Starting to think I needn't leave till them most days. Tomorrow I might try leaving 45 minutes later than I usual. What you think?
Oh my god I'm bored.

Reality Dawns
One of the downers of working in television is that the jobs are not permanent, you are only contracted for as long as the show and after that you are out on the street looking for a new job. It's all about timing - as sometimes as your one show finishes up another one is starting that you can go onto - but usually you have to start mail bashing companies and beg for a new contract. Literally.
This morning it dawned on me that I have 3 weeks until my contract here finishes and I'm heading home to Cape Town on holiday. 3 weeks and I'm jobless. 3 weeks?! Least I have the holiday to look forward to but I'm not looking forward to finding a new contract in January.
It's stressful. I'm stressed out and really worried that there won't be anything around. I can't even start looking now to make myself feel better as no one knows what is happening in the new year quite yet. This is the first time in almost 2 years that I haven't had a new contract to move onto already in advance.
This industry is so unstable - is it really worth it? Or this time should I try and find myself an "adult job"?
P.s
Jason is growing a scruffy beard at the moment which I'm not sure that I like ... but he's still hot

The insanity
Midday
Producer: Miss M, can you please set up our shoot for Monday. We need a call sheet put together
Miss M: Sure. Can you just email me the details and I'll figure everything out for you
Producer: We don't know yet.
Two O'clock
Miss M: Any ideas yet on those details?
Producer: Not yet, I'll let you know ASAP
Three O'clock
Miss M: Know them yet?
Producer: Nope
Four O'clock
Miss M: I'm still waiting
Producer: I know.
Quarter to Five
Miss M: Seriously guys, I need to know soon! These take about 2 or 3 hours to set up!!
Producer: We're not finalised.
So would someone please tell me how I am supposed to put a shoot together when
1) We don't have a location
2) We don't have an overnight hotel for the celeb
3) We don't have crew
4) We don't know any times
I'm not a miracle worker people!
