I decided to leave work early today to be bright eyed and bushy tailed for tomorrows start on the new show. So here I am, 7 minutes before I should actually be leaving work, sitting on my couch in my pj's watching silly TV whilst listening to the rain hammer down outside. What a lovely present to myself.
I met with my new Manager today and he seems really cool. He is one of the only 2 male Production Managers in my department - there is also only 1 male Co-ordinator.
I don't really understand why there are hardly any males working on the Production side of things. There are plenty on the creative side but for some reason Production is seriously dominated by woman. And when you do encounter the occasional male they are gay. It is really strange.
I was discussing it earlier with the only male Co-ordinator in our department today (And yes dear readers he is gay) and we thought that perhaps it is because our jobs focus around mothering people so much that only woman are attracted to it. We have to take care of people, organise their lives, deal with lots of logistics and multi task like there is no tomorrow.
Perhaps men are no good at this?
Or is it because they think they that are above it?
Well what ever it is I do wish that there was some more testosterone in Production - an all woman crew can sometimes get slightly too bitchy and all girls high school like for me. We need men to break that primeval urge that all girls have to destroy the other one.
Wish me luck for tomorrow people - for the first time in 3 months I'm going to be working on an active show and making it my own. I can not wait!
It's going to be fantastic.
Well the stories will definitely be ....

Exactly how bushy is your tail normally? I would say "break a leg", but I'm not sure that it applies to television.
Well I hope it all goes smoothly...and that you get some more eye candy on the job...nothing like a snack every now & then!
Can't wait to hear how your first day went!
@kyk - I think that is a little too personal for us to be discussing isn't it ... ?
Smash a camera perhaps?
@kab - Ta sweets, I'll let you know :)
La! i hope today went really well hun!
Soo stoked it's all worked out... and to think last week you were crapping on about leaving tv. Hah. You're addicted to the dramz. But then again, so are the rest of us reading your blog.
Perhaps “mothering” is more dependent upon personality than gender? Just a thought.
I’m looking forward to hearing about your new position and the show.
Blessing for a great beginning!
I've been out of town...so it is already Thursday night...hope today went fabulous for you!
Hey, you started it.
Good luck!
Hey dear,
Hope things went well for you! Glad to hear that its all coming right.
so how did it go hun????c'mon, spill the beans! we're dying of curiousity here!!!!@
cool!!!!!!!!!! enjoy every second!!
I completely hear you. My department is full of women as well. It can get a bit bitchy from time to time...
Hope the first day went well! The magazine industry is really similar - it's really female-orientated, with all the men in my office working in design, sales and accounts and hardly any involved in writing.
Sorry you guys, been busy at work! I promise that there will be an entry today ok???
