Guess who's back? Miss M's back ... back again!

Right, first off I would like to apologise for my extended absence.

"See you soon" has turned in to almost 3 months but it isn't that I haven't TRIED to blog because I've sat with my laptop in front of me staring at the screen trying to figure out what fun and entertaining anecdote I can come back with. What can I start with to hook my readers back with a bang? I just haven't been able to write.

But I'm back now and I'm just going to jump right in there.

Jade Goody. I am so over it now. (If you don't know what I'm talking about please google it)

Yes I'm sad that she is dying, yes it is horrible and yes my heart goes out to her and her family. I completely understand where she is coming from, the poor woman is just trying to provide for her children after she has died and I get that. It is pure instinct and if I was in her position I would probably be doing the same thing.

It is us that I am repulsed by. It is the fact that we're willing to pay money to watch someone's slow and painful death. People seem to be fascinated by it. What sick society do we live in that people want to watch this?

Gordon Brown has spoken out about her, 300 000 pounds was just spent on a faerie tale wedding for her yesterday and you can barely turn anywhere without seeing her face. The owner of Harrods gave her a 3000 pound dream wedding dress and the Sugarbabes played at her wedding. Celebrities are rallying around her showing their support - Now I wouldn't have a problem if this was raising awareness of cervical cancer but all I can see is it raising more awareness of Jade and the British obsession with Celebrities lives. There have been no charities made to help other people with Cancer and no attempts of money to be raised which upsets me. Did she really need to spend all that money on a wedding? Wouldn't that money have been better spent on helping people who can't afford the world class treatment she is getting and trying to save more lives?

I am ashamed to be linked to this show; I'm ashamed to think that I work for a company that would cash in on the death of another human being and I am refusing to partake in it.

My company are jumping on this cash cow too. They're filming her final interview on national television where the general public can gorge their eyes on her for the last time. Am I the only one who thinks that this is sick?

I apologise for the rant but this has really been upsetting me - I'm back now and I promise some fun, laughter, tears and more rants purely for your entertainment!

I really do think it is sick. In fact it is upsetting. I am avoiding the newspapers so I don't have to see her imminent death every day.

And it is sick how people are cashing in on this. But she is letting them though. Her life is public.

Another blogger wrote something about this too:

I must admit, down here there are somewhat more scarey things going on... did you hear about angryists?!! BUT, her story has had some coverage nonetheless - from what you say... you are so right ... it is kinda sick to be watching a person slowly fade away, in pain - human beings have a very macabre fasination with death though, that is pretty much certain and it is so sad that even with this knowledge, most people can't tear themselves away from it and hence create the demand for such invasive coverage (I think I just gave my profession away!). I did read an article though that there has been an increase in the number of people going for pap smears and such like in the UK as a result of this - they're calling it the "Goody" effect - so one positive, but still I agree it would be awesome to see a good chunk of the money spent/events raising money for people in the same situation - esp when right now economies are depressed and money is scarce and people are in need of so much over and above state provided healthcare.

Awesome to have you back :)

How she wasnts to run her life/death is up to her, but that so many people are interested is bizarre to me.
I just feel that some of that money/publicity that this has generated could have been used/be used in a more beneficial way.

Great that she's raised awareness by being ill. Not great tha she hasn't milked that attention for anyone but her own good.

welcome back.

I had to google it... head in the sand, that's me.

seems like a case of poor taste/judgement all round? But I can't blame her for wanting a secure future for her kids.

@po - Ta for the link, I'm checking it out now. Don't get me wrong, it isn't Jade that I have the problem with - it is the general public! I can't believe that we're so sick to have this has front page news in England

@shivs - so true, people are obsessed with death. Glad to hear that more people are going for smears though, I seem to have missed that piece of information. If anything good can come of this it would be amazing.

@6000 - I understand why she is doing it, she wants her kids to have a life after she dies but I just do not understand why WE are watching and am sickened by the bidding wars between magazines and newspapers to cover her "final moments" like weddings and interviews. They are willing to pay so much because we're willing and desperate to view it.

Man I feel ill again!

@piaG - Ta hon, it's good to be back :)

@Tay - GOOD TO BE BACK!!!!!

YAY!Welcome back!
If it does improve the amount of ppl going for smears then great,am always shocked at peoples lack of awareness of this, however, watching her fade away and the media circus that surrounds it is disturbing...crazy thats considered "news"

welcome back! i wonder whether the Jade overload is the result of a media with a very guilty conscience as well as a very good publicist... she's been vilified by all the tabloids at some point and now they're backpeddling because she's so ill...
