Major panic stations in our little area of the office yesterday. Turns out that one of the Directors was paid his salary more times than he should have been.
No one is really sure of how this happened.
Thing is, it isn't like it was only a couple of hundred pounds that appeared in his bank account - we are talking over £7000!
How does one not notice something like that?
I mean seriously.
Or did he hope that no one would notice that we paid him that much?
How would we NOT notice? But then again I suppose it has taken us 6 weeks to notice but it was bound to happen eventually.
Now we can't get a hold of him as he is away on holiday - blowing that extra 7 grand no doubt.
I mean seriously! What was going through his head?
Director: Ooo it appears I've been paid a bit more this month
Director: Wow, my rate went up
Director: Hmmm my dodgy dealings have finally paid off ...
Director: Wow man whoring is paying well these day!
Or maybe he is just like me and never checks his bank balance for fear of what he might see?
Well all I know is that he now has to pay us back £7000.
That would suck.

A job that I want
I'm starting to think that the higher up the TV ladder you get the more you get paid but the less you actually do.
Take for example our show that we are making right now.
Episode 1 was in the edit for 4 weeks. The Edit Producer and the Editor put in many hours and even worked weekends and eventually came out with a fantastic end product.
The Commissioner came in, viewed the show and said "I don't like it".
He decided that he wants something different.
So for him we have to push the edits back. Spend more money on the Editor and the Edit Producer and generally all be at panic stations as the schedule and the budget have to be reworked.
Basically that tosser spent 48 minutes watching the show and then has turned out lives completely upside down.
It is the poor Editor who now has to work many more hours to get the show into the state that he wants it. The Editor has to work his butt off and desperately try and make it perfect for some man to come in - spend 48 minutes yet again watching and then nod or shake his head.
And he gets paid thousands for that.
Damn I want that job.

Out of hiding
Sorry I've been AWOL for a couple of days. We had a bank holiday here on Monday so no work and then yesterday I spent almost 4 hours at the Accident and Emergency clinic due to a climbing injury I incurred over the weekend.
Not worry - all is fine. I just managed to strain my calf muscle and can't walk properly. Jailbait is extremely worried as we were supposed to go away again this weekend and keeps phoning me in panic regarding this.
Personally I think my ability to walk is more important than him missing a climbing trip.
What you think?
My boss isn't too keen on the idea of me climbing at all.
Miss M: It isn't that bad, I just can't walk properly.
Gay Manager: Miss M you are banned from climbing for the next two months, I don't think I could survive without you!
I suppose that is quite a compliment isn't it? However it won't stop me from climbing! As soon as this leg is better and I'm back up and running I will conquer that 30 metre wall that eluded me this weekend.
Yes I know, I'm insane.
I almost throttled a Director today.
He kicked up a fuss about having to stop by the office to collect a piece of camera kit on his way back to the location up north this afternoon.
Director: Snide tone I just really love doing your job on my day off Miss M
Miss M: Very slowly What do you mean "doing my job?"
Director: Having to collect and deliver things
Miss M: Pissed off tone Well I'm not going to (location) and you are so we thought we'd save ourselves £85 by getting you to quickly stop by here before getting on your train. Is there a problem?
Director: Sulky tone I just don't like being made to feel like a lackey.
A LACKEY? IS THAT WHAT HE THINKS I AM?
I don't understand why so many Directors act like spoilt children.
And are way too full of themselves for their own good.

Overheard in the Office
So the other day we were just having some general chatter about the different shows that are going on in our department - we were discussing if they were running smoothly and whether they'll be good TV when this wondeful statement was dropped in.
Miss M: So how is (The Show) going up North?
Production Manager: Apparently it is going quite well. I wouldn't want to be working on it though because a lot of the cases they are following have ended up dying. That must be quite stressful.
Edit Producer: With a totally straight face Well that is good isn't it? Makes for fantastic TV
Silence
Miss M: Completely shocked You can't say that!?!? Take it back!
Edit Producer: But it's true. People dying makes for really good viewing. You have to think in those terms Miss M
Production Manager: I hate to admit it but he is right
Miss M: Big sigh Sometimes I wish I worked with sane people
Edit Producer: We are, we just think constructively in TV
My colleagues are sick sick sick people.

Stairs ... Stairs ... and more stairs!
I was complaining the other day that I don't get enough exercise - well it appears that the Gods heard me and I swear never to moan again. Today I have run up and down 9 flights of stairs a grand total of 5 times to panter to the needs of a Series Director. Sometimes it is understandable but sometimes it is just plain annoying.
10am Miss M gets into the office
Email from Series Director: Hi Miss M, I'm in the edit down on the 1st floor - can you please bring me tape 20 and 25?
Miss M runs down the stairs and drops them off
20 minutes later
Email from Series Director: I just need tape 3 if you could drop that off?
Miss M runs down the stairs
1 hour later
Email from Series Director: Just realised that I also need tape 15 - are you able to run it down?
Miss M runs down the stairs
Now this one is just completely beyond me
Telephone rings
Miss M: Brightly Hello
Series Director: Hi Miss M, could you possibly please go and get some CD's for me and drop them to me in the edit? They are in the Music Department
Miss M: The Music Department by the Studios?
Series Director: Yes, they're under my name
Miss M: Perturbed Suuuuure
Now dear readers the Music Department is basically about a 2 minute walk from where our wonderful Series Director is at the moment. I have to take the stairs or elevator 10 floors down, walk to where the Department is and converse with someone about some CD's that I know nothing about.
Whilst he could have walked out of his edit, down 1 flight of stairs and got them no problem.
Do higher up Creatives just enjoy having people that they can get to do things?
Just as Miss M is sitting down to eat her lunch
Email from Series Director: I forgot tape 1, could you bring it down?
SERIOUSLY?!
Hey, least I got some exercise today!
